Evolution of Color Style in Landscape Painting

PAN Wang-sen(Department of Fine Art,Hefei Normal University,Hefei 230061,China)
Color is an important part of the landscape painting language. From the perspective of the entire development and process of landscape painting, each stage is closely linked with the traditional Chinese "Five Elements","Five Colors",the Confucian color concept, the color concept of Taoism and the color concept of Buddhism. There's something about a spectacular landscape that makes the painters' fingers itch to capture its essence on canvas,to be able to create a landscape painting that generates the same intense emotion in someone who views the painting.Since the Song Dynasty, landscapes of more subtle expression appeared;immeasurable distances were conveyed through the use of blurred outlines, mountain contours disappearing into the mist, and impressionistic treatment of natural phenomena.
