STRUCTURAL INTERPRETATION OF THE TAOXI FRACTURE ZONE IN XIUNING AND THE IMPLICATIONS OF ITS ROLE IN REGIONAL ORE CONTROL

At the northwestern fringe of the Xiuning County-Shexian County overall-planned and miningoriented exploration area, the Taoxi structural fracture zone is broken in rocks and strong in mineralizing alteration. Detailed structural study led to identification of thrusting, left-lateral displacement, normal faulting and right-lateral displacement. Granite porphyry intrusion into the zone and relation between gold polymetallic mineralization and structure indicated that thrust-nappe structure was prior to mineralization in time, NE-trending strike-slip fault controlled distribution of magmatic rocks in the area, the dominantly NE-trending normal fault took place in the mineralizing period and right-lateral strike-slip fault formed after mineralization. The multistage deformation of the fracture zone and its relation with ore formation may guide exploration in the study area.
