A dipole back-fed tri-band indoor microstrip patch antenna

A novel dipole back-fed tri-band indoor microstrip patch antenna is presented.8 patches of different dimensions are symmetrically arranged on the top side of a dielectric substrate.A λ/4 planar broadband dipole is separated by an air gap from the substrate and connected by a pair of λ/4 impedance transformers to coaxial cable(50Ω).These patches are fed by the dipole through electromagnetic coupling and mutual adjacent coupling among them.The antenna covers the three bands:CDMA/GSM900 DCS/PCS(820~975MHz,VSWR≤2.5);GSM1800/DCS/PCS/UMTS(1585~2060MHz,VSWR≤2)and Bluetooth/WLAN/ISM(2.39~2.502GHz,VSWR≤2) with gain ranging from 5dBi to 10dBi.And-3dBi beam-width of the bands are all no less than 60° both in E-plane and H-plane.Additionally,the antenna also has simple structure and low profile that makes it suitable for indoor wireless communication.
