SUN Ni(College of Foreign Languages,ANU,Wuhu 241000,China)
The Mimic Men is one of the important postcolonial novels concerning the Third World politics by V.S.Naipaul,which deals with multiple themes of the postcolonial literature such as mimicry, identity, exile, conflicts among races, the relationship between the former colony and the metropolitan country, etc. The novel not only represents various difficulties the newly-independent countries have to be confronted with,as well as the dilemma of the nationalists;but most important of all,it exposes the deep-rooted colonial mentality which results in the distorted mind and the split personality of the colonized as a result of colonial domination and colonial education for a long time.
