ZHANG Bo;Center for Modern Chinese City Studies& School of Social Development,East China Normal University;Department of Sociology,Pudong Administration Institute;
"Slum"is the urban spatial polarization phenomenon caused by the imbalance between urbanization and industrialization.Any modern countries and regions should guard against the occurrence of slums.From the analysis of Shanghai urban development,suggest that slum phenomenon does exist in China's urban memory,but because of the national government's careful management of the slums,currently China's urban slums has been on the verge of extinction,which reflects the ability and level of the government to manage the socialist state and is a"great miracle"in the development of modern cities.However,With the deep development of urbanization,marginal living space frequently appear in different corners of the city,which requires government to narrow the gap between the city and the countryside,reduce poverty and achieve common region reconstruction to avoid urban slums and realize the orderly healthy coordinated development of urbanization.
