ZHU Ren-qiu;Department of Philosophy,Xiamen University;
Liu Zihui was a famous Neo-Confucianist in the early years of the Southern Song Dynasty and early teacher of Zhu Xi.In the system of Liu Zihui's Confucianism,the three characters of"not far back"are the starting point of physical and mental cultivation,which mainly includes three dimensions:self cultivation,social care and the benevolence as the unity of all things.In On Tao Sages Inherited,Liu Zihui put forward his unique view on Confucian orthodoxy,which blended Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism.He thought that"aspiring only to the refined and the one"in Book of History was a"secret"in Confucian orthodoxy inherited by heart-mind,and"the one"was the way to cultivate heart-mind.The main ideas in the Theory of Holding People Together are"the mutual support between the government and the people","holding people together by winning popular support"and"the four principles of holding people together".These ideas had profound influence on Zhu Xi's view on self-cultivation,theories of benevolence,theories of Confucian orthodoxy and people-oriented thoughts.
