Temperature Dependence of Elastic Constants for NaCl and KCl Crystals

FANG Zheng-hua (College of Physics and Electronic Information, Anhui Normal University, Wuhu 241000, China)
A new simple relation for the determination of elastic constants of alkali halides at high temperatures is developed based on Tallon’s method of generalization and the approximation that the temperature derivative of the work done by the thermal pressure is a constant at high temperatures. The tests on NaCl and KCl crystals demonstrate that the agreement between the calculated results obtained by this relation and the corresponding experimental data is very good. It has been shown that the present method is far better as compared with the earlier similar investigations. In addition, the improper application of Tallon’s method of generalization in the literature is also pointed out.
