Synthesis of Spindle-Like Praseodymium Hydroxycarbonate and in Situ Conversion to Praseodymium Oxide by Calcinations

Praseodymium hydroxycarbonate(PrCO3(OH)1.68) spindle-like crystals with an orthorhombic phase have been successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method.The phase purity,microstructure,surface absorbed water were characterized with X-ray powder diffraction(XRD),field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and infrared spectroscopy(IR).Thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA) indicated that PrCO3(OH)1.68 can be totally converted into Pr6O11 as the temperature exceeded 800℃.Cubic phase Pr6O11 was obtained after calcination at 800℃ for 6h.The morphology of the Pr6O11 crystals retained the precursor PrCO3(OH)1.68 except that many small pores appeared on the surfaces of the Pr6O11 crystals.
