Research on Relation between Students' Achievement Motivation and Perception of Participation, Self-Reported Persistence and Effort in Physical Education Setting

The purpose of this study was to examine the relation between secondary school students' achievement motivation and perception of participation, self- reported persistence and effort in physical education setting. The results revealed that: 1)Students' mastery-approach goals and mastery-avoidance goals have positive and negative impact on perception of participation, self-reported persistence and effort, respectively; students' social-relationship goals were indirect predictor of these variations; students' social-responsibility goals were not only direct predictor of self-reported persistence and effort, but also indirect predictor of perception of participation, self-reported persistence and effort; 2)Students' perceived performance situation was indirect predictor of perception of participation, self-reported persistence and effort; Students' perceived mastery situation was not only direct but also indirect predictor of these variations. 3)Perceived competence were not only direct but also indirect predictor of perception of participation, self-reported persistence, meanwhile it moderates the effects of perceived performance situation on perception of participation, self-reported persistence and effort. The significance of the results to improve the engaged in PE was discussed finaly.
