Antioxidant Activities of Different Coptis chinensis Polysaccharides:A Comparative Study

Objective To study the antioxidant activities of crude Coptis chinensis polysaccharides and Coptis chinensis polysaccharides with different charges.Methods After removal of proteins by Sevage method,the crude polysaccharides were further purified by diethylaminoethyl cellulose column chromatography.The antioxidant activities of crude Coptis chinensis polysaccharides and purified Coptis chinensis polysaccharides with different charges were measured by Fenton method,pyrogallol autoxidation method,and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)method.Results Four polysaccharides with different charges were obtained after the crude Coptischinensispolysaccharides were isolated and purified by anion-exchange column chromatography.All components could eliminate some hydroxyl free radicals,superoxide anions,and DPPH.The component with a higher charge had a relatively high antioxidant activity in all test methods.Conclusion Coptis chinensis polysaccharides show certain antioxidant activities,which are positively correlated with their charges.
