His views on Gu Wen(ancient prose) inherited his two teachers, but involved his own unique views. He critically inherited Yi Li(the law of the article),Kao Ju(textual research),Ci Zhang(words and articles). He was opposed to those behaviors which separating the three aspects of article and he believed the Ci Zhang was the main, the Yi Li and the Kao Ju supplemented. He emphasized the independence of the ancient prose, that the most important thing is the spiritual meaning of the text. The sound of recitation method is the ideal way to obtain spiritual pleasure. He emphasized Ci Zhang in the three aspects and advocated to use those words which are simple but rich, strange but following the grammar. When it came to Western learning,he emphasized the coordination of Chinese and Western, and advocated to use the old school to express new meaning to pursue the ideal effect of helping each other.
