Effect of Different Planting Density on Photosynthetic Characteristics and Yield of Different Maturity Cotton Varieties

In order to investigate the photosynthetic characteristics of different maturity cotton varieties in the flowering and bolling stage at two densities,and provide a theoretical basis for high-yield and high-efficiency cultivation techniques in southern Xinjiang,the photosynthetic characteristics of flowering and bolling stage and the relationship with yield were studied under the conventional density(210 000 plants/hm2) and low density(52 500 plants/hm2) with three mature varieties(early maturing, middle early maturing and middle maturing).The results showed that the stomatal conductance, transpiration rate and intercellular carbon dioxide concentration at low density were slightly higher than those at the conventional density, and the net photosynthetic rate at low density was early maturingmiddle early maturingmiddle maturing, and at normal density, it was middle maturingmiddle early maturingearly maturing.At the two densities, the SPAD value of three mature leaves showed the phenomenon of inverted four leavesinverted three leavesinverted two leavesinverted one leaf.The SPAD value of leaves showed early maturingmiddle early maturingmiddle maturing.The number of bolls per plant at low density and single boll weight were higher than those at the conventional density,but the yield at low density was still lower than that at the conventional density due to the difference in the number of plant per acres.The yield traits at the two densities were middle early maturing middle maturing early maturity.Therefore, under the natural ecological conditions of southern Xinjiang, the combination of density of 210 000 plants/hm~2 and early maturity variety can exert group advantages and obtain high yield.
