Leaf Image Segmentation Based on Color Difference and Fuzzy Clustering

In order to solve the image segmentation of traditional Chinese medicine plant leaves, considering color features in the natural environment, a segmentation algorithm of the leaves based on normalized green-red difference index(NDI) color difference is presented. Firstly, the NDI color difference of RGB image is calculated by NDI, then use FCM segmentation algorithm to remove non-green regions. The results show that the algorithm can segment the green leaf area from the natural environment accurately, and running time is shorter than that of FCM segmentation algorithm in converted color spaces.
