Analysis of English and American literature teaching from the perspective of cognitive narratology

English and American literature,one of the most important subjects of college English teaching,has been increasingly marginalized at present. In addition,the traditional teaching methods diminished the appeal to college students. As compulsory for English majors,English and American literature courses play an important role in the quality-oriented education among all the university students. By introducing the theory of cognitive narratology,this paper aims to provide the students with a new perspective and new approach for studying English and American literature,helping them deeply understand the characters and narrative art and build correct life outlook and values,as well as explicating the enlightenment of English and American literature teaching for the teachers.
