Clinical observation of octreotide acetate in the treatment of diarrhea induced by chemotherapy

Objective To summarize the effectiveness of octreotide acetate on diarrhea induced by chemotherapy.Methods Totally 31 patients with grade 3 diarrhea were administered with octreotide acetate (100μg,s.c,tid).Clinical condition,times of diarrhea,and side effects were recorded.Results The overall response rate was 87.09%(27/31);diarrhea was controlled in 3 days in 24 patients (77.42%).However,diarrhea was not controlled in 4 patients even until the sixth day,which were regarded as treatment failure.Conclusion Octreotide acetate can effectively control diarrhea induced by chemotherapy.
