Application of ultrasound-guided continuous paravertebral nerve block in radical esophagectomy

Objective To observe the effect of ultrasound-guided continuous paravertebral nerve block on the stress reaction and inflammatory reaction of patients treated with radical esophagectomy. Method 96 cases of esophageal cancer patients were retrospectively analyzed. These patients were grouped by respective methods of anesthesia as study group(ultrasound-guided continuous paravertebral nerve block combined with general anesthesia) or control group(continuous epidural nerve block combined with general anesthesia), with 48 patients in each. Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the stress reactions and inflammatory responses of the two groups. Result The level of epinephrine,IL-6, and IL-10 in 0 h, 24 h, and 48 h after surgery in the study group were significantly lower than that in the control group(P0.01). The blood glucose in the two groups were similar immediately after surgery(P0.05); But was lower in24 h and 48 h after surgery in study group compared with control group(P0.01). Conclusion Ultrasound-guided continuous paravertebral nerve block has a significant effect on reducing stress reactions and inflammatory responses, which is clinically applicable.
