INVESTIGATIONS ON ARTERIES IN RESPECT TO EXTRA AND INTRACRANIAL BYPASSES II. THE TOPOGRAPHIC PROJECTION OF THE MIDDLE MENINGEAL ARTERY

As in the first part of this study, the same coordinate system was used to determine the coordinate position of the course of the middle meningeal artery in. 42 Chinese male adult cadavers ( unit: mm) . 1. In 6 cases ( 7.14 ± 2.80% ) the middle meningcal artery ( 1 case ) or its anterior branch ( 5 cases) originates from the ophthalmic artery system, and then passes through the lateral part of the superior orbital fiisurc into the middle crania! fossa. 2. In 18 cases (22.78 ±4.72% ) the branching positions of the middle rneringcal arteries are situated above the level y = 20. The coordinates for the branching points are ( 34. 81 ± 4. 85mm, 25. 86 ± 3.94mm ). The branching positions of the others ( 61 cases, 77. 22 ± 4.72% ) are all under the level y = 20. 3. The x coordinates of the intersecting points of the anterior branch with the levels y= 20, y= 50,y = 60 and Y=70 are 39. 94 ± 6. 26mm, 28. 45 ± 6. 64mm, 23.57± 7.09mrn and 20.42 ±7.68mm respectively. 4.The posterior brarch intersects with the level y = 20 at the point x = 20.62 ± 18.74mm, then intersects with the Y axis at the point y = 33.80± 10.43. mm The x. coordinates of the intersecting points of the posterior branch with the levels y=50, y = 60 and y = 70 are - 28. 89 ± 16. 43mm, -28,84 ± 14.02mm and -37. 24 ± 12, 29mm respectively. 5. The distributor, of the intersecting points of the two branches with the definite levels was analysed, and the clinical significance of the middle meningeal artery in extra and intracranial bypasses was diseussed.
