Influnce of Ground Motion Parameters on Dynamic Responses of Rock Slope

The dynamic failure process of rock mass slope under seismic forces might have some relationship with the coupled effects of material structure of rock mass,local stress,seepage temperature fields and characteristics of ground motion.The dynamic responses of rock slopes under ground motion with different amplitudes,frequencies loading orientations were analyzed through numerical simulation with the consideration of researches on loose rock mass and strong motion at the meizoseismal area of strong earthquakes.The results indicated that the responses of rock slopes increased with the increasing dynamic load peak and decreasing frequency of ground motion,and the vertical ground motion had significant impact on the rock deformation and failure.Non-uniformity of deformation and failure would be the most significant characteristics of rock slopes caused by ground motion.The mechanism and limitations of above results were also discussed using data from static mechanics and elastic wave theory.The key to dynamic failure of rock mass is to accumulate more data from physical simulations site investigations and then to carry out quantitative analysis and evaluation.
