Stability Analysis of Pipe Wall Stability in Pipe-Jacking and the Optimization of Wall Thickness of Steel Pipe

Few studies are focused on the stability of steel pipe during pipe jacking construction and the choice of proper pipe wall thickness.The pipe-jacking of intake pipe design of a heat-engine plant is studied as a project case,and the 3D numerical model is created to simulate the construction phases,based on the geology survey result and field experiment.Through numerical simulation the internal force and deformation of steel pipe can be obtained,but the control standard of wall thickness can not be got directly.The method in related code is leading to compute the critical pressure to maintain stability of steel pipe under its different wall thickness.Comparing the critical pressure with the actual force of steel pipe,the proper wall thickness can be determined.Through computation of different pipe wall thickness and different modulus of soil around the pipe,the wall thickness of steel pipe in the project studied can be reduced from original design thickness 34 mm to 22 mm.
