The Key Technology of Super Large Diameter Shield Tunnel

The Φ14.93m slurry shield of river crossing channel for Nanjing Weisan Road has successfully originating.This project is located between Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge and Nanjing Yangtze river tunnel which has been opened to traffic.This is the fourth river crossing tunnel under Yangtze River.It is of large diameter,under high water pressure,located at the place with complex geological conditions,some sections of the tunnel should pass through composite strata soft above and hard below and the construction risk is big.The sections crossing the river take an X form of cross and inside the tunnel is a single tube with double layer structure.The section crossing the river was constructed with mud pressure balanced shield machine,which could drive long distance for one time.The shield originating is the key technology of shield tunnel construction.It contains a lot of thoughtful and meticulous works.This article focus on all kinds of preparation works before the shield originating and summarizes the key technology of shield originating for river crossing tunnel of Weisan Road in Nanjing.This can provides reference for the similar projects in future.
