TEM STRUCTURE STUDY ON THE SURFACE DEFORMED LAYER OF -Ti MARTENSITE

Ti martensite can be obtained by oil quenching from 920,the morphology of martensite is lathlike or massive.Deformation twins will be formed in the surface strengthening layer of -Ti martensite after shot peening.The growth of a deformation twin in martensite looks like a wedge which edges into the matrix.Twins with various orientations will develop and form the twin paling in the surface strengthening layer.The bump and deformation of twins tend to form microdamages which can influence the fatigue strength of the -Ti martensite.
