The Influence of TransportConditions in the Ming and Qing Dynasties on the Creation of Novels

This article puts forward the idea that the novelists' choice of subject matter in the Ming and Qing Dynasties is closely related to the transport conditions of the region where they lived. In describing and explaining this point, the writer concludes that the novelists in the region with comparatively good transport conditions mainly wrotenovels on the life of the commercial society, while those in the region with poor transport conditions usually wrote novels with folktale characteristics. This consideration plays an enlightening role in the besearch on ancient novels.
