An Analysis of Chuang-tzu's Thought in Hesse's Steppenwolf

Steppenwolf is one of the masterpieces of the famous German writer Hermann Hesse. With its strong symbolism, it guides people to explore the spiritual way out in the era of lack of faith. Chuang-tzu's thought has a deeper influence on Hesse. This is reflected in the cultural reflection, humanistic criticism and thinking about life and death in Steppenwolf. It can be said that Steppenwolf shows the unique value that Hesse used oriental philosophy to solve the western spiritual crisis.
