AN ANION-VACANCY EXPLANATION FOR THE MECHANISM OF THERMAL EXPLOSION REACTION OF α-Pb(N_3)_2

Samples of α-Pb(N_3)_2 doped with Ag~+, K~+, Ba~(2+), Hg~(2+), Bi~(3+) and La~(3+) were prepared and the influences of these ions on the sensibility of thermal explosion of α-Pb(N_3)_2 were studied in detail. The results of experiments show that the anion vacancy provides favourable energetic and spatial conditions for the thermal explosion reaction in α-Pb(N_3)_2. It is concluded that the thermal explosion reaction takes place firstly in anion vacancy. The thermal explosion sensibility varies as the anion vacancy concentration increases. This explains the mechanism of thermal explosion reaction of α-Pb(N_3)_2, and is given a full discussion in the paper.
