The comparison of British and Chinese characteristics and translations of Chinese and English habitual expressions

JIN Lan (Foreign Languages Department, Beijing Institute of Machinery, Beijing 100085,China)
Habitual expressions are the essence of language. It is very important for langnage learners to understand and learn to use them. However, beginners tend to misunderstand these habitual expressions in their native language culture. Based on Carl James' psychological contrastive analysis and linguistic components of contrastive analysis, the analysis of formation of habitual expressions is presented from the aspects of ecological environments, habits and customs, national psychology, religious believes, fables and literary works. Furthermore, five approaches of translation are put forward to make the translation more original and meet the needs of communication.
