Effect of addition of NaOH during synthesis on the structures of multi-walled carbon nanotube

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) have been synthesized by a catalytic pyrolysis method using a mixture of benzene and ethanol as carbon sources,and ferrocene-thiophene-sodium hydroxide(NaOH) as the catalyst system.The effect of the NaOH concentration in the reaction mixture on the structure of the MWCNTs was investigated.The results indicated that the outer diameter of the MWCNTs decreased significantly with increasing NaOH concentration,whilst the inner diameter increased only slightly.
