Synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotube supported Ni-P alloy catalysts and their electrocatalytic activity in ethanol electro-oxidation

Multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWCNT) supported nickel-phosphorus(Ni-P) alloy catalysts have been synthesized by a modified electroless deposition method.The resulting materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HR-TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),selected area electron diffraction(SAED) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS).The results showed that the Ni-P nanoparticles were amorphous,had a spherical geometry with a size of about 100 nm,and were homogenously distributed on the sidewalls of the MWCNTs.Electro-oxidation of ethanol on the MWCNT/Ni-P catalysts was investigated by cyclic voltammetry(CV).The MWCNT/Ni-P catalysts showed excellent electro-catalytic activity for the oxidation of ethanol in alkaline solution.
