Economic Analysis of Library Defined as Common Resources

Wei Fuyi;
Traditionally,libraries are regarded as a kind of public goods in economics,but with the development of libraries,more and more economic attributes that are inconsistent with public goods are found. According to Mankiw's economics theory,it is more suitable for libraries to be defined as common resources rather than public goods. The similarities and differences between libraries as common resources,public goods and club goods are analyzed,and then on this basis,a new economic model of running costs and benefits issues of the readers in the library operation has been built,thus the interpretation and analysis of some serious problem cases as libraries are considered as public goods have been made,and finally some solutions from the perspective of economics for those problems have been put forward as well.
