PRESENT SITUATION OF FOREST ENTOMOLOGY AND PATHOLOGY EDUCATION AND RESEARCH IN THEUNITED STATES

On a science tour to the U.S.,the authors visited the universities of Wisconsin (Madison) ,Minnesota,New York state,Florida and California (Berkeley)and two forest experiment stations of the U. S. Forest Service from May to Juny in 1984.The general situation of education and research concerned with forest pests presented. Much work being done on the pine blister rust, Dutch elm disease, root rot (caused by Armillaria mellea and Heterobasidion annosum) , Hylobius spp. and Dendroctonus spp. , and many new achievements made in these fields.
