Comparison Between Levels of Thyroid Autoantibodies in Thyroidal and Peripheral Venous Blood of Patients with Graves' Disease

Liu Chao;Hou Xinde;Zhang zhongbang;et al.(Department of Endocrinology,The First Affiliated Hospital,Nanjing Medical college, Nanjing 210029)
In order to investigate the site of production of thyroid autoantibodies in Graves' disease, thyroid stimulating antibody(TSAb),thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) and thyroid peroxidase antibody(TPOAb) levels in both thyroidal and. peripheral venous blood(TVB andPVB) were determined during operation in 11 patients with Graves' disease , 9 patients without Graves' disease. The levels of TSAb ,TGAb and TPOAb in TVB were significantly higher than those in PVB of patients with Graves' disease who were positive for these autoantibodies. No gradient of concentration for serum T_3 ,T_4 was found between TVB and PVB in patients with or without Graves' disease. There was no statistical correlation between TSAb,TGAb or TPOAb levels and serum T_3 or T_4 in TVB or PVB of patients with Graves' disease, however TSAb levels in PVB were markedly correlated with those in TVB. The results indicate that the thyroid gland of patients with Graves'disease is the site of production for thyroid autoantibodies.
