Design of Corner Detection in X-Ray Image

Corner detection is a common problem for image processing. Compared with images usually processed, the quality of X\|ray image is bad. So, the existing method of corner detection is not suitable for X\|ray image. In this paper, in view of characteristics of X\|ray image, a chessboard\|like pattern template was designed first, and a general method of corner detection for this pattern was proposed. For this problem, strategy of global processing is not suitable. Strategy of block processing should be applied. The proposed method mainly consists of the following three steps. First, each sub\|region (namely each block) including corners is extracted preliminarily by automatic thresholding.Then one simple and practical edge detection operator is applied to each sub\|region to get edge points. At last hough transform based on the above\|mentioned edge points is used for line fitting to obtain the four sides of each block. The cross points of sides are just the corners required. The proposed method overcomes the difficulty caused by bad quality of X\|ray image. The experimental result showes the proposed method is feasible and robust.
