Effect of light intensityon the soluble sugar content and growth of ryegrass's leaves

Purposes—To study the suitable light intensity for the growth and development of ryegrass and to investigate the external environment where the soluble protein content of ryegrass' s leaves is high.Methods—Hydroponics was used when the ryegrass was cultured at 6different light intensities which were set in Fytosys box.The soluble protein content of ryegrass' s leaves was determined with Coomassie Brilliant Blue method;seed germination and plant growth index were also researched at the same time.Results—(1)The soluble protein content(P0.01)of ryegrass' s leaves under 6light intensities has significant difference.Under the light intensity of 300μmol/(m~2s)and400μmol/(m~2s),the soluble protein content is highest,which is 8.24mg/g and 8.16mg/g,respectively;(2)The germination rate,germination potential,germination index and vigor index(P0.05)of ryegrass under 6light intensities have significant differences.The germination rate,germination index and vigor index of ryegrass increase first and then decrease with strength of light intensities.Their values are highest under light intensity of 300μmol/(m~2s),and their values are 92.33%,52.78 and 211.58,respectively;(3)Each growth index of ryegrass has significant difference under 6light intensities(P0.01).Under 300μmol/(m~2s)and 400μmol/(m~2s)of light intensities,the bud is longer,namely,4.01 cm and 4.05cm;under 300μmol/(m~2s)of light intensity,the root is longer,and its value is 3.04 cm.The root weight and bud weight also have more significant differences.Under 300μmol/(m~2s)light intensity,the root and bud weight was 0.06g/10 plants and 0.10g/10 plants,respectively;(4)Pearson correlation analysis shows that there are significant correlations between the soluble sugar content of ryegrass' s leaves and bud length,root length,germination rate,germination index and vigor index,the correlation coefficient is 0.90,0.92,0.80,0.63 and 0.85,respectively.Conclusions—Under light intensity of 300μmol/(m~2s)treatment,the soluble protein content was higher,and the ryegrass germination and plant growth was better.In the future actual application,the light intensity of 300μmol/(m~2s)could be chosen for the cultivation and planting of ryegrass.
