Objective To compensate the deficiency of self-balancing capability of a single blood center, and promote the equalization of blood service in the provincial area. Methods According to the relevant documents issued by the health administrative department and blood management department of Anhui Province, and the entire blood collection, supply and allocation data from Anhui Blood Management Information System from 2008 to 2012,we analyse the blood allocation management model, processes and operational procedures. Results From 2008 to 2012,all the 16 municipalities adopted routine allocation and emergency allocation,to achieve the normalization of blood allocation in Anhui Province. The routine allocation of Rh(+) red blood cells accounts for 2.32%(70 824 U /3 048 913 U) of its provincial supply,Rh(-) red blood cells, plasma, and platelet respectively accounts for 1.57%(201.5 /12 868 U),1.36%(38 010 U /2 788 835 U) and 1.23%(738 U /59 778 U).In all kinds of components,Rh(-) red blood cells allocation occupy the highest proportion of the provincial blood supply, and it already achieved 10% of its provincial supply in 2012.The centers which always supply blood to other areas mostly located in the north of Huai River, and those which need blood are mainly on the Jianghuai Area and the south of Changjiang River. There are significant regional clustering characteristics. Conclusion There are obvious regional differences in the distribution of blood resources in Anhui, and a provincial blood management information system is the basis of a convenient blood allocation. The allocation practice of blood resource prove that it is necessary and feasible to build an provincial blood resource allocating mechanism under the current system.
