Objective To investigate the prevalence of HEV-antibodies in Jiangsu blood donors and analyze the genotypes of HEV. Methods HEV-specific immunoglobulin M( Ig M) and Ig G were determined with ELISA assay in 1 144 blood donors in Jiangsu Province Blood Center from September to October 2015. HEV RNA of Ig M reactive samples were extracted and tested by nested-PCR. Results Overall, prevalence of HEV-specific Ig G was 19. 23%,while 1. 49 % for Ig M.The presence of anti-HEV Ig G was not associated with gender or education level; however,it was correlated with ages and occupations. Our results indicated that the anti-HEV prevalence increased by age and there was a significant difference between the age groups. HEV viremia prevalence was 0. 26%( 3 / 1144). Two was genotype IV and one was undetermined. Conclusions High prevalence of HEV Ig M and viremia were observed among the blood donors in Jiangsu. More blood donors should be screened to value the potential risk of transfusion transmitted HEV.
