Objective To compare the overall status of public opinion on blood donation with key city status in China. We believe this study would provide data reference for improved voluntary blood donation services in future. Methods Changes in donation related key words on BAIDU search engine were analyzed, which provided the initial data to compare the national status and the Beijing city status; Donation-related key words favored by the public were analyzed while a heat map of word-corresponding cities was created. Results The trend of overall national blood donation search index was similar with obvious periodic fluctuation. The search heat was regional-specific with similar fluctuation cycles. Public attention mainly focused on potential benefits/drawbacks of blood donation. Conclusion The blood management organization and blood bank should further strengthen cooperation in terms of propaganda, propaganda content, blood donors, blood donation service care, etc.,which ultimately aims for improved public opinion on blood donation.
