Preliminary Study of Herbs on the Influence of Phosphodiesterase 4 Activity

JIANG Dai-xun, CHEN Wu, YU Tong-quan, LU Ping, YANG Liu, MU Xiang (Beijing Agricultural College, Beijing 102206,China)
Selective herbal regulators of phosphodiesterase 4(PDE4) were sieved by the influence on PDE4 activity to supply evidence for the research of pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and clinical regulation of cyclic nucleotides content. With cAMP as the substrate, PDE4 extracted from porcine neutrophils and herbs were added into the reaction system, respectively, then cAMP concentration after reaction was detected by HPLC to calculate the influence of herb on PDE4 activity. Positive number stands for inhibition, and negative number for promotion. There were 38 herbs that had inhibition and 16 herbs had promotion on PDE4 activity in all 54 herbs. Some herbs have comparatively powerful inhibition and some have fairly strong promotion on PDE4 activity in selected herbs, which hint it is feasible to sieve specific PDE4 regulators from herbs.
