The Effect of Dihydrokainate on the Pyramidal Neurons in the CA1 Hippocampus

Objective The effect of DHK, a selective inhibitor of glutamate transporter subtype GLT-1,on the pyramidal neurons in the CA1 hippocampus was investigated. Methods Global cerebral ischemic model was made by Four-vessel occlusion. DHK was administrated by injection into right lateral cerebral ventricle.The brain of the rats was sectioned and stained with thionin to show delayed neuronal death (DND) and Histological Grade (HG) in the CA1 hippocampus. Results There was no apparent DND in control (distilled water) group. DHK of different doses caused DND of pyramidal neurons in the CA1 hippocampus, and to offter dose dependent. Conclusion DHK caused DND of pyramidal neurons in the CA1 hippocampus in a dose-dependent manner.
