The application of carbon microspheres on dye adsorption and its photocatalytic removal

Carbon microspheres were successfully fabricated by hydrothermal method using glucose as raw material. The sizes of microspheres and their adsorption properties were controlled by adjusting the concentration of glucose and the addition of acrylamide; meanwhile,the carbon microspheres were applied to dye adsorption and photocatalytic degradation. The SEM images showed that the diameters of carbon microspheres reduced with the increase of glucose concentration,and effectively reduced with the addition of acrylamide.The experiments results of dye adsorption and photocatalytic degradation demonstrated that the carbon microspheres synthesized via the addition of acrylamide resulted in better properties of methylene blue adsorption and photocatalytic degradation,and the degradation efficiency of methylene blue reached approximate 90 % within 2 h.
