The influence of temperature on water migration of seasonal frozen ground in Hetao irrigation district

The frost heave of seasonal frozen soil has an important influence on agricultural production in Hetao Irrigation Area of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Water migration is the direct reason for the generation of the frost heaving damages. The field test was carried out to analyze the ground temperature and moisture content in South Canal of Hetao Irrigation District during a freezing and thawing cycle in order to research the influences of the temperature in the seasonally frozen ground area on the channel's moisture field as well as its changing laws. The results showed that a large amount of migrated moisture gathered in the middle-lower part of the canal slope,leading to serious frost-heaving damages,which provides the basis for the prevention of frost heave by channel lining.
