OBSERVATIONS ON A FUNGUS PARASITIZING ENTAMOEBA HISTOLYTICA

Cao Cheng-qi Feng Yi-sheng Department of Parasitology, Binzhou Medical College, Shangdong Province
Infection of Entamoeba histolytica with the chytridiaceous fungus Sphaerita was observed in some specimens obtained from a farmer and stained with iron-haematoxylin.The fungi were found in 78% of the cysts: mostly immature ones.Within the amoebae this parasite occurs singly, in groups, or in the form of a sporangium. It is located in the cytoplasm, the glycogen mass or the chromotoidal bars In the same material, the parasitic fungus was also found in 18% of E.coli cysts; in 11% of E.nana cysts, while only one in 16 E.hartmani cysts encountered We thought it would be an interesting case of hyperparasitism so far not reported in China, as well as a rare case of several species of amoebae heavily infected with fungus in the scientific literature
