The Synthesis and Electrochemical Performance of Flower-Like Hierarchical Fe/CeO_2 Solid Solution

In this paper,flower-like Fe/CeO_2 Hierarchical nanostructures are successfully prepared through a hydrothermal method using Ce( NO_3)_3·6H_2O and anhydrous FeCl_3 as raw materials and ethylene glycol as solvent. The effects of reaction temperature and reaction time on the morphology of the product are investigated. The products are characterized by scanning electron microscopy( SEM),X-ray diffraction( XRD),energy dispersive spectroscopy( EDX) and thermal analysis( TG). The uniform product with a diameter of about 5 μm is obtained when the ratio of cerium nitrate( Ce(NO_3)_3·6 H_2O) and ferric chloride( FeCl_3) is 1∶ 1 after the reaction mixture is heated at180 ℃ for 12 h. Electrochemical performance of Fe/CeO_2 in 2 mol·L-1 KOH electrolyte is studied by cyclic voltammetry,galvanostatic charge-discharge and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy( EIS). The results show that Fe/CeO_2 presents the synergistic oxidation-reduction and insertion-deinsertion reaction in 2 mol·L-1 KOH electrolyte,and can be used as electrode material for supercapacitor.
