DISCOVERY OF NEGATIVE VALENCED NITROGEN IN QUARTZ FROM GOLD DRPOSIT,AND DISCUSSION ON ITS OCCURRENCE STATE

With the aid of X-ray photoelectron spectrum,negative valenced nitrogenhas been discovered in quartz from a gold deposit.The binding energy of the nitrogen is398 ev±which corresponds to many nitrogen compounds with negative valencednitrogen,including Si_3N_4.Si has two X-ray photoelectron spectrum peaks:103.4 eV and101.9ev,corresponding to the binding energy of SiO_2and Si_3N_4 respectively.The bindingenergy of both N and Si suggests that Si_3N _4 exists in the quartz and the valence ofnitrogen is-3.Such negative valenced nitrogen may substitute oxygen via isomorphism。This discovery provides new data to crystal chemistry of quartz.
