Out of the Status Quo“Stuck in the Past”:the Demand of Times for High School English Teaching in the Context of the New Curriculum

Teaching should show the characteristics of the era.High school English teaching must advance with the times in teaching objectives,contents,methods and assessment.However,the current problems in high school English teaching in China include:teachers teach English as it is just a tool;the teaching contents are difficult and out of date;the methods are monotonous;teaching evaluation is score-oriented. At present,high school English teaching should be focused on teaching evaluation system,English curriculum plan, and teachers' professional development and so on. The main strategies are:change the college entrance examination evaluation system to monitor and ensure the effective implementation of the new system;revise curriculum plan to make it more appropriate for diversified teaching objectives and basic,optional teaching contentswith the characteristics of the times; establish teacher support system and the school-based teaching and research system to promote teachers' professional development,which can contribute to the implementation and the advancement of the new curriculum in terms of teachers' teaching beliefs and their teaching behaviors.
