Applying Production-Oriented Approach to College English Interpreting Teaching

Production-oriented approach( POA) is a new TEFL theory aiming to increase the efficiency of college English class.This article reports a one-semester classroom experiment on this theory in college English interpreting. Under the direction of the teaching hypotheses of "output-driven","input-enabled"and "selective learning",the three-phase process of interpreting teaching includes motivating,enabling and assessing,in which the teacher plays an important role of mediation. It presents detailed description and analysis of the classroom teaching practice on adopting POA approach. It also provides feedback from both students and co-teachers through questionnaires and interviews as well as the author's reflection based on the teaching. Some suggestions for adopting this approach in EFL class are also given at the end.
