Reservoir characteristics of shale in Xiangzhong depression and Xiangdongnan depression of Hunan,China

In order to effectively carry out the reservoir characteristics research on the high maturity and organic matter-rich shale of the marine and transitional facies in the Xiangzhong depression and Xiangdongnan depression,by using X-ray diffraction analysis,field emission scanning electron microscopy,thin sections identification,and specific surface area testing of clay minerals,the authors confirm that the main minerals in the shale are quartz,clay minerals and carbonate minerals.Among them,brittle minerals account for 57% of the total,the rock types are mainly dark grey mudstone,grey and black shale and dark grey lime mudstone.They also reveal that the main reservoir space types are frame pores,dissolution pores,organic matter pores,organism cavities and micro-fractures.Moreover,the well-sorted pore throats benefit the shale gas to move in the reservoir.On the whole,it is generally accepted that there are good reservoir conditions for the shale gas of the Upper Paleozoic shale formations in the Xiangzhong depression and Xiangdongnan depression in Hunan.
