Quantitative analysis of porosity loss caused by destructive diagenesis in the Chang 8 Reservoir,Jiyuan-Yanchi area of Ordos Basin,China

Samples are analyzed by means of casting thin sections,scanning electron microscopy,carbon and oxygen isotope analysis and testing techniques,combined with the application of fixedpoint statistical methods and formula calculation,in association with the study of basic characteristics of Chang 8 reservoir,diagenesis types,structure evolution and the results of quantitative analysis,so as to quantitatively evaluate the porosity reduction of Chang 8(Member 8 of Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation)tight reservoir,caused by destructive diagenesis and to analyze the process of reservoir porosity loss,in Jiyuan-Yanchi area of Ordos Basin.It reveals that the Chang 8 tight reservoir experienced such destructive diagensis as compaction,cementation and clay mineral filling.Among these destructive diageneses,the average porosity reduction resulted from compaction is 20.92%,and cementation is 8.52%.Whereas carbonate alone causes 4.33% porosity reduction,chlorite causes average porosity loss of 3.54%,and kaolinite filling brings about 3.43% reduction of porosity on average.Through comprehensive analysis of the process of reservoir porosity loss,it is showed that the porosity decreased by 15% due to destructive diagenesis of compaction,early calcite and chlorite cementation during syndiagenesis and early diagenetic A period.Till the early diagenetic B period,further compaction and early calcite cementation decreased the porosity up to 13.39%.During the middle diagenetic A period,destructive diagenesis mainly includes the late(including)iron calcite,authigenic quartz and kaolinite and other cements filling,and the porosity eventually reduced to8.24%(porosity increased by erosion and tectonic are counted in).
