INFLUENCE OF THE SIZE AND FALLING POSITIONS OF RAIN-DROPS ON THE PRECISION OF THEIR RADIUS MEASUREMENT
Yan Banghua(Nanjing Air Force Institute of Meteorology)
The influence of the size and falling positions of the rain-drops on the precision of their radiusmeasurement is studied by means of the geometrical theory of optics. The anslysis shows that the rain-drops of the same radius can receive more scattering light and give less peak values of light scintillationsignals if they are closer to the receiver. The rain-drops of different radii produce different effectivelight elimination coefficients and lead to a bigger measure error. The classified processing of the rain-drops can reduce the error to 0.04 mm or less.
