A Study of Spatial Metaphors Related to "Head" in English and Chinese

LIAO Gui-yan(Department of Humanities and Social Science,Chengde Petroleum College,Chengde 067000,Hebei,China)
Space,as one of the fundamental ontological forms,is the number one element for human's living.Similarly, head plays a vital role among all the body parts. Therefore, the Chinese and the English correlate "head" with space in their practice and create countless spatial metaphors related to "head",which are analyzed in details in this paper. The analysis provides evidence that both similarities and differences exist in the ways of thinking of the Chinese and the English, which in turn proves the view of metaphor in cognitive linguistics.
