Effects of Na_2CO_3 on Underground Indexes of 10 Alfalfa Cultivars at Initial Stage of Growth

Ten alfalfa(Medicago sativa.)varieties were treated with five concentrations of Na_2CO_3 to study the effects of salinity-alkalinity stress.The crown diameter,crown depth,taproot diameter,lateral root diameter and lateral root position at initial stage of growth were measured to determine the effect of salt stress.The results showed that the indexes were significant differences at different grades of Na_2CO_3 solution;the crown diameter and the taproot diameter were decreased with the increase of Na_2CO_3 concentration,the crown depth and lateral root position were increased with the increase of Na_2CO_3 concentration;but the lateral root diameter did not have an obvious tendency;According to the comprehensive analysis,‘AC Caribou'and‘Zhongmu NO.1'had stronger tolerance to salt stress,so they are suitable to be cultivated in alkaline saline areas.
