The Physiological Response of the Warm-season Turfgrass Cynodon dactylon Accessions to Acidity and Aluminum Stress

Five Al-tolerant and Al-sensitive Cynodon dactylon accessions selected based on the preliminary study were planted in acidity and aluminum soil.The physiological index of the total chlorophyll content,relative electrical conductivity,MDA(malondialdehyde)content,SOD(superoxide dismutase)activity,POD(peroxidase)activity,proline content and total soluble sugar content were assessed after growing in acidity and aluminum soil for 28 days in order to study the physiological responses of Cynodon dactylonaccessions.The results showed that the total chlorophyll and soluble sugar content were reduced under acidity and aluminum stress,and the reduced range of sensitive accessions was greater than that of the tolerant accessions;the relative electrical conductivity,MDA content,SOD activity,POD activity,and proline content increased under aluminum stress,and the increased range of tolerant accessions was higher than that of the sensitive,suggesting that Cynodon dactylon could alleviate the effects of acidity and aluminum stress by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities.
